Using the #40 Sifter

Any tips for using this sifter without making a mess? The sifter is almost almost 9” diameter which I thought would make the job quicker. Just tapping it gently over my largest Pyrex mixing bowl I still got flour all over the counter as well. I tried raking a silicone spatula over the flour kinda like the wire in an old-fashioned sifter but it didn’t speed things up. Would love to hear from others who have & use this sifter.

@hrkoll Hi! I’ve got the #40 sifter and indeed had the same problem. The only way I was able to avoid getting flour all over my counter was to use a really huge mixing bowl with a very large diameter opening to catch all the flour. The bowl I ultimately used was basically a large commercial or industrial-sized mixing bowl. Fortunately, I had one so my “fix” was a simple one for me.

I had the same thought Leah. I have a much larger pottery bowl & an even larger stainless steel bowl that I can use next time.
