Beer substitute for milk

I found a recipe for German bread that uses yeast instead of sourdough. It also uses milk and water in the recipe. I would like to use beer for the milk to give it a taste similar to the bread I grew up with as an Army brat in Germany. Do you think this will work?

If you’d like to use beer then use that in place of the water, not the milk.
