My sourdough starter

What am I doing wrong. I think I’ve tried every suggestion for sourdough starter and it always fails. Now am using distilled water and organic flour. It starts out bubbly for two days and then is flat after feeding the 3rd day. However, it does smell like alcohol. Should I try using it ?
